Knife Rights submitted a comment supporting the ATF's proposed rulemaking (RIN 1140-AA73) to clarify interstate firearm transport protections under the Firearm Owners' Protection Act. The organization noted the proposed rule aligns with their Knife Owners' Protection Act (KOPA – H.R. 60 & S. 346) bills, which extend similar protections to knife owners traveling across state lines.

Knife Rights, founded in 2006 by the author in response to a Wall Street Journal article, celebrates two decades of advancing knife owners' civil rights. The organization has achieved 58 legislative victories and court wins repealing knife bans across 36 states, federal law, and over 200 cities, while defeating 13 anti-knife bills and litigating federal Second Amendment challenges.

Knife Rights has entered the motions phase of its federal lawsuit challenging Minnesota's switchblade ban. Minnesota filed a Motion for Summary Judgment arguing switchblades fall outside Second Amendment protection, while Knife Rights' attorney John Dillon and Chairman Doug Ritter contend the state's position contradicts the Supreme Court's Bruen framework. Knife Rights' response brief is due March 20th.

Knife Rights achieved significant legislative victories in 2025 across multiple states, including knife law preemption bills in Ohio, Arkansas, and Idaho, switchblade ban repeals in Hawaii, Vermont, and Delaware, and debanking protection for the knife industry in Idaho. The organization also successfully amended bills in Washington and North Carolina while continuing federal litigation challenging switchblade bans in California and Minnesota.

Knife Rights criticizes the Trump administration's Department of Justice for defending the Federal Switchblade Act in court, arguing the DOJ's response brief contradicts claimed Second Amendment support. Attorney John Dillon states the government's arguments are baseless, and Knife Rights plans to file a final brief early next year while seeking donations to continue the legal fight.

At the request of Knife Rights, Arizona State Representative Quang Nguyen, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has issued a letter to the City of Tempe, Arizona, informing them that their 2024 ordinance banning the possession of “brass knuckles” by adults in certain public places likely violates state statute and the Arizona Constitution.

Knife Rights applauds President Trump's Executive Order Guaranteeing Fair Banking for All Americans. For many years banks have discriminated against knifemakers and manufacturers. This executive order may go a long way towards preventing future de-banking efforts against our community.
